In a plot twist straight out of a low-budget action flick, a man in a high-visibility vest waltzed into an auto auction and drove off in a stolen Mercedes. Spoiler: the plan immediately fell apart.

It was like a con from Ocean’s 11. Miguel Angel Dejesus-Gomez, 27, decided if he just walked into the Manheim Auto Auction in Lancaster, Pennsylvania like he owned the place, he could walk out with whatever he wanted. So during a Wednesday afternoon auction he arrived wearing a safety vest and mask. He did indeed leave with a 2023 Mercedes-Benz C300. But his getaway was anything but smooth. Police say he almost flattened three security guards on his way out. His driving only got worse from there.

That move earned him charges for robbery, criminal trespass, and recklessly endangering others—among others. Lancaster Online reported that by 3:10 p.m., Northern Lancaster County police were tracking the stolen Mercedes down Route 72.

Stolen Mercedes takes a hard exit off Route 30

Manheim Township police spotted the car on Route 30. That’s when Dejesus-Gomez allegedly tried to make a slick getaway—until he crashed at the Walnut Street exit and took off running.

This wasn’t your average foot chase. Four police departments joined the hunt, plus a drone team and K-9 unit. Residents were warned to shelter in place while officers locked down roads around Pitney Road and Princess Anne Drive.

Busted by drone, tased by cops

At 5:08 p.m., police arrested Dejesus-Gomez on the 1600 block of Glenn Road. Dispatch logs show EMS was called after officers used a taser during the arrest. His preliminary hearing is set for May 27. His bail is $100,000.

After nearly mowing down security guards and leading police on a multi-agency chase, Dejesus-Gomez was apprehended. The Mercedes? Out of commission. His bail? The equivalent of a brand new AMG GT 53. The lesson? Stealing a late model Mercedes takes more than confidence.
