Mazda picks American drivers over CanadiansÂ
Did you know that the Mazda CX-50 is built in the Mazda manufacturing plant in Huntsville, Alabama? Mazda actually has 21,000 employees in the United States.Â
According to MSN, Mazda was planning to stop production of all models of the CX-50 that were heading to Canada on May 12. But now its plans have changed.Â
Instead of pausing production, Canadian-bound models will be redirected to the United States market. So American drivers might experience faster delivery times for CX-50 SUVs. However, those in Canada will have a longer wait time.Â
Increasing production for American drivers is now the priority. The only Mazda production facility in the United States will be utilized to support growth in the North American market.Â
The SUVs won’t experience any changes to overall production volume in America. Availability of the CX-50 will increase by roughly 10%.Â
The automaker has been making strategic movies in response to new tariffs. It will continue monitoring the situation with negotiations, market trends, and policy developments to make appropriate responses.Â
Also, the CX-30 is the most popular Mazda SUV in Canada, so the limited availability of the CX-50 shouldn’t hurt its bottom line too much. Plus, the CX-50 Hybrid is expected to gain popularity this year. It uses the same powertrain as the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.
