Don’t come to me for legal advice, but being crazy might not be a crime. Police officers in Utah didn’t care as a woman reported a man jumping in the back of her car at a gas station. The cops said because the man ran away, no crime was committed.
Utah police shrug as man jumps in woman’s car at a gas station
A woman in West Valley City, Utah was shaken up by a man getting in the back of her car at a gas station. She was texting while pumping gas around 8 AM.
This gave the man plenty of time to jump in her backseat before she could lock the doors. She screamed that the car wasn’t his and that he needed to leave. He got scared and ran away. The incident occurred at a Walmart gas station near 6200 South and 5600 West in West Valley.
However, Utah police officers didn’t make a report or provide much of a response. According to KUTV, when she tried to file a police report, the West Valley Police Department said no crime was committed. They decided not to investigate.
Meanwhile, she was left to wonder about how much worse the situation could have gone. The man could have had a criminal history and could strike again.
The only help she received from police officers were a few tips about safety and personal awareness. While getting gas, look around, stay off your phone, and lock the doors if you get back in your car.
If a criminal is in your car, get out. If the criminal is holding you, fight, scream, yell, and honk the horn to get away from them.
