
A supplier for Stellantis and Nissan owes $767 million while filing bankruptcy

The last thing that Stellantis and Nissan need is more financial trouble. However, they both rely on a supplier known as Marelli Corp, which has filed for bankruptcy. It supplies crucial parts for cars and SUVs and owes the automakers a combined $767 million.Â

Stellantis and Nissan may have another pickle on their hands as tariffs and supply chain constraints impact various markets and suppliers.Â
The automakers rely on supplier Marelli Corp for various parts. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This comes after the Japanese auto parts company has experienced months of uncertainty with creditors.Â
Also, the company is mostly known for building car interiors and lights, which are crucial components. Marelli claims to have secured $1.1 billion in financing from its lenders and 80% of them signed an agreement to support its restructuring.Â
This would help eliminate its total debt obligations of about $4.9 billion. Marelli blames its trouble on tariffs impactingthe automotive industry as Nissan struggles to turn things around. During this process, Marelli works to minimize operational disruption.Â
Stellantis sold Magneti Marelli to Calsonic Kansei for $6.6 billion in 2019. It has struggled to get its footing since the Covid-19 pandemic. According to CBT News, it owes Stellantis $454 million and Nissan $313 million.Â
Its restructuring process could take months to years to complete while working closely with suppliers to ensure continuity. Its other unsecured creditors include Mazda at $30 million and Tesla at $22 million.Â
Jeep, Dodge, Maserati, Abarth, Chrysler, Citroen, and Vauxhall could also face delays as this supplier struggles.
