Utah firefighters battle burning truck as propane tanks explode
Traffic was moving along on I-15 in Kaysville, Utah until an accident closed every single southbound lane. A couple was hauling their camper when they noticed smoke coming from the battery area of the truck.
They pulled over and used fire extinguishers to try and stop the flames. Two witnesses equipped with fire extinguishers also tried to help.Â
Around 12:30 PM, police officers and firefighters quickly responded to reports of a fire. It took them four minutes to reach the scene.Â
As they arrived, they saw a heavy-duty pickup truck and camper completely engulfed in flames by milepost 327, near Burton Lane. According to KUTV, multiple propane tanks inside the trailer exploded.Â
The owners of the HD truck yelled at the firefighters to spray the camper with foam before the propane tanks exploded, but the fire spread too quickly. They wanted them to forget the truck and save the RV, if possible.Â
Luckily, no one was injured as all passengers safely exited the truck and camper. However, the southbound interstate was closed as crews battled the flames. The truck and trailer were both complete losses.Â
The owners were devastated to see how quickly their belongings were turned to ash. The interstate reopened to slow passing traffic later in the afternoon.Â
